The perfect guide to discovering the region’s unique features
I’ll be your guide to help you explore the Pays de Retz, between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire, renowned for its diverse landscapes and rich historical and cultural heritage.
Bring your camera and I’ll show you all the must-see spots in the Pays de Retz: the Château de Pornic, the Canal de la Martinière, the beaches and fishing villages along the Atlantic coast, the remnants of the Wars of the Vendée and the Atlantic Wall, Lake Grandlieu, the artworks of the Voyage à Nantes, and those of the Loire Estuary.

Explore the Martinière Canal on foot, by bike, or on the water…
Today’s Loire Estuary is very different from what it was in the 18th century. Back then, it was wider, dotted with islands, and had shallow waters, so increasingly larger ships could no longer navigate as far upstream as Nantes. In the second half of the 19th century, the French government, Nantes merchants and shipowners, and local officials decided to jointly fund the digging of a maritime canal to facilitate navigation in the estuary.
Construction began in 1882 and lasted 10 years.
Meet the Ocean Serpent….

Come recharge your batteries in the great outdoors by hiking or biking, enjoying water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, rowing, or coastal hiking, or simply have a coffee and watch the birds in lush natural surroundings. Here are a few ideas for hiking routes: https://www.pornicagglo.fr/service/tourisme/
